Te Maungas Fun Camp

A couple weeks ago Te Maunga went to camp. My favorite memories of camp was when me and my sleeping group were getting told off for talking and laughing too much while everyone else was trying to sleep. Another one of my favorite memories was when I went kayaking because it was a really fun and relaxing activity to do.

One thing I learnt was how to paddle a kayak. To paddle you have to turn the flat side of the paddle then push it in the water to make you go forwards.

Some things I would like to do again at camp are kayaking and slippery soccer because it was really fun to slide on the mat and kick the ball around.

Maramataka

This week and last week we have been learning about the Maramataka. The maramataka is a Maori calendar that tells you when the right time to do stuff is like planting, fishing and gathering.

One thing I learnt was it takes thirty days for the moon to travel around earth and each night the moon looks different from the night before.Something else I learnt was Maori harvest kumara during ngahuru (autumn) when there is less water in the ground so they would be dry. If they were too wet then when they store them they would rot.

The hardest part was when we had to make our own think and search question.

Down below are pictures of what me and my whanau do in each season.Do you use the maramataka?

Our Trip To The Pools

Last week we did aquabots. We went to the Bay College pool and tested out our aquabots. We had to do different obstacles where we had to go through hoops and pick up shells.

One thing I learnt was how to balance out my aquabot. We had to cut off some of the pool noodle so there would be less buoyancy and then we had to move the pool noodle over on the opposite side of the motors so that it could balance.

One thing I could do better next time is I could listen to my group’s ideas more .

Our Fun Friday

Last week in Te Maunga we were learning about Matariki. We had a group and one person in the group had to pick a piece of paper from a bag . Each piece of paper had a name of a star for example Waita or Pohutukawa. And whatever star you got you had to research about it.And put facts on a google drawing.

One thing I learnt was Waita is the Maori word for water and ta is a Maori word for salty.Waita can be translated to salty water like the ocean.Another thing i learnt is that Waita represents the ocean and the food I the sea.

One thing i can do better next time is I could find more research about Waita for my poster.

Our whanau

This week we were learning to introduce our family in Maori. We have to talk about our dads side of the family and our mum’s side of the family. Then we have to talk about our siblings like for example the oldest and the youngest.for example  Ko Dahlia toku tuakana and Ko Zac toku tungane.

One thing I learnt was how you describe my family relations in Te Reo Maori.

One thing I could do better next time is I could have got better at saying my  brother and sister correctly in Maori.

Water Friday

My favorite part  was when we played water soccer and when we got to go on the water slide for water soccer the floor was slippery. And we had pool noodles there was a ball and to nets we had to pick a team and then we had to use the pool noodle to hit the ball in the other teams net

I found challenging was red light green light the hard part was we had to stay still when the leader turned around

One thing I would like to do next time is we could have a more games like dodge ball and seaweed in the pool

coding

Today/This week we were learning about coding / scratch with our name. We have to get all the letters in our name then we can put different sounds on the letters. You have to tap the button in the top left corner that says sounds.

One thing I learnt scratch. I learnt how to make different sounds. You need to press the bottom in the top left corner that says sounds. Then you can change it to different things.

One thing I could do better next time is I could have made a different sound for each letter and different rotations.
